Popeye Village is definitely the place which is
worth the attention. Located in the north of the main island of Malta, a small
bay hidden in high cliffs created a landmark for the real village where a 1980´s
film was shot. The current village differs from the film village in terms of
equipment for visitors. It is a kind of museum and an exhibition hall connected
with Popeye the sailor man, you can watch the film, visit places that Popeye
himself also visited and places where key scenes were filmed. You can also see
first-hand buildings that actually appeared in the film, including their
interiors.
The sometime
fishing village of Xlendi is now also a popular resort town. For weekending
Maltese and tourists, it's a favourite place to chill out by the sea, with good
swimming, snorkelling and diving, and plenty of rocks for sunbathing. In the
19th century, this was known as 'women's harbour', as it was reserved for
women-only bathing. Now you will be enchanted to find a unique hotel concept
under the wings of Cesca´s Boutique Hotel.
For such a small
island, Gozo packs in a wide variety of experiences and attractions. Travelling
history fans should not miss the megalithic temples, fortress and compact
capital of Victoria. Mountain biking, kayaking and clifftop hiking are all
opportunities for active visitors, while Gozo's food and wine scene focuses
strongly on fresh local produce and briny-fresh seafood. While Malta can
sometimes feel busy and crowded, sleepy and laid-back Gozo offers the perfect
opportunity to breathe out and relax.
Once a summer
bolt-hole for Valletta's movers and shakers, Sliema is one of the island's most
sought-after neighborhoods, a mélange of golden-stone townhouses and swish
apartment blocks. Covering its own peninsula, it merges into the district of St
Julian's to the northwest, and Gżira and Ta'Xbiex to the south, and is
separated from Valletta by narrow Marsamxett Harbour. Sliema is also the home
of 1926 Hotel & SPA – a unique concept which offers accommodation, dining
option and wellness oasis at the same place at once.
